Book Review -Never Ceese

I just finished reading Never Ceese. I started reading it this morning and I couldn’t put it down. I literally only put it down to eat. I enjoyed it very much! The interesting plot and well developed characters kept me wanting to know more. It was well written with a nice balance of description and dialogue. I kept picturing it all in my mind thinking, “this would make a great movie.” When will the sequel be ready for purchase? I want to find out what happens next to Richard and Ceese and more about their father and how he got cursed (on purpose to save his kids?) and Mama and . . .

Really well written and quite fast paced, exciting and really looking forward to the next one . . .just had to let you know I have read your wonderful book, keep in touch!

Ok I finished the book and all I can say is WOW. Well I can say more than that but really WOW. It came yesterday and I finished it last night. I couldnt put it down! Never Ceese may be one of the greatest werewolf/vampire sagas of all time. The story pulled me in, and wouldnt let go until I'd read the last word. It proves that monsters aren't always the bad guys, and that faith can help you through even the most supernatural of circumstances. Ending with a suspenseful cliffhanger, it left me begging for more. Bravo!

I absolutely loved Never Ceese! It is an excellent example of Christian fantasy done right, and I think anybody interested in the genre should look up to Sue for her work--I know I certainly will! Christian fantasy can be so hard to do, especially when involving concepts that are traditionally dominated by the pagan/secular world; yet, Never Ceese managed to bring those ideas around to the Light. An enthralling plot mixed with captivating characters and sincere emotions fueling them....and wonderfully written, at that! I was entranced by the book the entire time. Now I can hardly wait until Forever Richard comes out.

Sue Dent is a new kid on the block, but she is destined to be the most popular. Her first novel, Never Ceese, will captivate you from the first page. Her characters jump right off the page, making you laugh, cry, and worry for their safety, and we’re talking vampires and werewolves! Her message of hope and love in Never Ceese, make it one of the best novels of our time. Get to writing Sue. I really need to read the sequel, Forever Richard.

Never Ceese is Sue Dent’s first, young adult fantasy novel. Her central characters, Ceese, a werewolf and Richard a vampire are so compelling, and the stakes so high, it’s hard to put the book down. Cursed hundreds of years ago, should they die – and a silver bullet will do it – their souls will be eternally condemned. Should they pass on the curse they also lose any chance of regaining their humanity and thus returning to grace and the hope of heaven. But there is hope. Mamà, herself once cursed, learns of research being conducted by an eminent scientist, Dr Henderson. Henderson, however, has a hidden agenda. Mama conspires to bring Ceese and Richard together and sends them to Henderson, in New York. The alliance is at first strenuously resisted but eventually endured because of their love for Mama. Juxtaposing the mythic and the modern, Dent has evolved a believable mythology of werewolves and vampires that is original and engaging. She tackles difficult issue like rape, betrayal and death of loved ones with sensitivity, not sentimentality. Published by Journey Stone Creations, Dent’s book is haunting, compelling and often funny. I eagerly await the sequel Forever Richard.

Sue, I totally dig Never Ceese! You are such a GREAT storyteller! I have a bad habit of starting books and then abandoning them because I get bored. Yet with Never Ceese, I feel like I know the characters and have become completely engrossed in their story. Not since (dare I say) J.K. Rowling have I come across such a great storyteller! I can’t wait to see how it all pans out. I would definitely compare your writing (again) to that of J.K. Rowling. I think you are a great story teller and I absolutely can’t wait to read Forever Richard!!!! So please, don’t keep me waiting long. Thank you! Oh, and thank you for signing my copy! Very cool!

Go ahead and place Sue Dent's Never Ceese on your bookshelf beside Peretti and Dekker. Newcomer Dent doesn't hold back any punches in her fantasy tale of a vampire and a werewolf who are thrown together in a quest to do the unthinkable...break their curses! With her gift for bringing together traditional secular fantasy characters into Christian fiction, Dent shows that God's grace truly knows no bounds. This story will keep you reading until the last word.

Vampires and werewolves, oh my! Sue Dent has written a novel that brings a new flavor to the world of Christian fiction; a story that is haunting, touching, and humorous all at once, balanced with the themes of enduring faith. The paranormal has a new headmistress in Sue Dent. Just make sure you look behind your shoulder on that dark walk home at night!

Sue Dent’s Never Ceese is a new twist on an old premise: vampires and werewolves. I’ve never liked horror, but thoroughly enjoyed Never Ceese, because it isn’t horror. The two main characters, a vampire and werewolf, behave more humanely than most mortals. The characters are fascinating, and draw you into their world, but not so deep that you lose sight of the Light. She weaves the lore of the two creatures into a very modern story. Never Ceese is a believable fantasy, sprinkled with heartache and humor. As you follow the cursed lives of the vampire and werewolf, there are plenty of plot twists to keep you wanting to know what happens. They live with their curse, but both strive to rise above what they have been forced to become.

Vampire and werewolf myths go back generations and have captured the fancy of many a culture. Classic books of the late nineteenth century and cinema renditions of the legendary creatures from the early days of Hollywood have played a role in shaping our imaginations. People are attracted to the mysterious icons of horror and fear. But why are vampires and werewolves so popular? Could it be our ability to relate to them? These poor creatures walk amongst us, interacting, embracing and engaging in most any setting -as long as it takes place under the cover of darkness. And most readers probably believe that the story lines have all been exhausted. But along comes Sue Dent's provocative, bittersweet and unpredictable novel, Never Ceese. It takes the two classic monster legends and incorporates them into the Christian fiction genre in a way that both entertains and witnesses to the glory of God. The plot grabs your interest immediately and takes you on a thrill ride. Darkness and evil are important ingredients of the story. But the story is spiced with enough humor to lighten the mood at appropriate times. And yet the spiritual themes so essential to Christian fiction are interwoven with a fascinatingly dramatic style. Adults and teens alike will be captivated by Never Ceese. Sue Dent hails from Mississippi, a state steeped in the heritage of literary giants who would all tip their hats, curtsy or raise a toast to their native daughter's tale. It successfully crosses the fantasy, horror and Christian fiction genres. Dent imparts spiritual themes in a provocative and thought-provoking manner. Bram Stoker, Anne Rice . . . . They've got nothing on Sue Dent! The author's fans appreciate her ability to weave a plot that captures your heart, stirs your emotions, and leaves you yearning for more. Good news readers! A sequel is in the works - 'Forever Richard'.

I had to make myself slow down and read it slowly instead of cramming it all in to finish. Never Ceese is full of twist, turns, humor (don't get so caught up in the story you miss it) drama and unforgettable characters. Your heart is drawn in and just as you figure out the obvious, you are again scratching your head. I had long ago put down the werewolf/vampire fiction because they usually lead you down the path to satanic control. This ficton book gives those that like this premise a chance to read it without being drawn into the evil that usually surrounds such books. This book shows that all men and women have evil in us, but there is the One who is the "opposite of unholy" at work in our lives for our good and it is ultimately our choice to respond to Him or not. Never Ceese leaves me hanging on for Forever Richard and maybe Pretty Soon Penelope?

Never Ceese falls in between the cracks of traditional genres, and is a refreshing change from the typical genre fantasy—an attractive melding of several different themes that combine to make a stunning symphony for the reader. There is definitely a spiritual thread, but this story contains what too much of so-called “spiritual fiction” lacks—it is wry, bittersweet, humorous and even bordering on irreverent at times. Once I started reading, I had to finish in one sitting. Once I finished, I had to send the author an e-mail asking for a sequel. I am grateful that she does plan one. Think of the usual stereotypes for vampires and werewolves; then throw them out the window. Think of plot twists that leave you swinging in the wind and characters that tug at the emotions; then go far beyond. This is what Never Ceese provides the reader. If the ending doesn’t leave you drained and hungry for more, you have my sympathies for your bare shell of existence.

I started reading Never Ceese yesterday afternoon. Today, I'm starting Chapter 15 of this captivating story. As I read, I keep thinking, This should be a movie! Sue Dent has quite a talent for helping me visualize the story as I read it, which I really enjoy. As I'm getting deeper into the story, I find myself saying, "I knew it!" more and more, and I can hardly wait to pick it up again after work. Totally fascinating! I hope Sue Dent is well on her way to getting Forever Richard completed, because I know I'm going to want to find out "the rest of the story."
